I love what I do!

"Have I done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad? If not, I have failed indeed. Has anyone's burden been lighter today because I was willing to share? Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? When they needed my help was I there?
" -"Have I Done Any Good", LDS Hymns, Will L. Thompson, 1847-1909

Of course this song is talking about service, and most of my life I've thought of it in relation to serving others, outside my home and family. But more recently, I've thought about it in regards to raising my children and being a wife. After all, these are the two roles I want to be better at more than any other.

I've thought about each line and how I can answer most of those questions, with a resounding "Yes!" at the end of each day. Being a mom is hard work, and sometimes it's easy to get in my routine and feel like it's all mundane.

But when I break it up and think about the little moments that happen each day and how I am able to teach my daughter about colors, numbers, prayers and songs, help her find her blanky, or make her smile again when she's sad, and how my little boy can be soothed by the sound of my voice or immediately comforted when his messed britches get changed, or how I can sneak a note into my husband's lunch to encourage him or rub his neck at the end of a long, hard day, I realize I am serving all day long. And I can be grateful that I have a family to serve.

I absolutely love what I do. I am so grateful I get these two precious little spirits to raise as my own. I hope that I as I go throughout my days, I don't let the mundane-ness of it get to me, and that my family will see though my attitude that I love and am glad to serve them with all my heart.

  1. Thank you so much for this! It really helps to take a step back sometimes and remind yourself that this is really what it's all about. You're such a great mom, wife and friend! Thanks for reminding me we truly are serving our families every day!
